Chaplaincy Retreat and Weekend at the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Belloc

belloc 1

The Belloc Abbey weekend took place from 13th to 16th May in the foothills of the Pyrénées Mountains in the Basque country. The main speaker was Revd Canon Malcolm Herbert on the topic “Growing in Christ”.

Climbing the hill to the Abbey one immediately senses peace and tranquillity. It wasn’t the weather, or the buildings so much as the community of St Benoît itself and our own Chaplaincy members. Friendship and love over many years, a common purpose of worship and prayer, bring us ever closer.

Our discussions led by Malcolm helped us understand the importance of working together as members of “deep church” to do more for our neighbours and our communities and remember that God’s “fingerprint” exists everywhere.

It was an enjoyable and blessed few days. Many, many thanks to everyone who helped arrange it.

SOS HELP Crisis line in English: 01 46 21 46 46

SOS Help is a telephone listening service for the English-speaking community in France.  Trained listeners are available every day of the year from 3pm to 11pm.  The service is confidential and anonymous.  In addition to compassionate, non-directive listening, we can provide information on community services and community resources available to English-speaking callers.  SOS Help is staffed by volunteer listeners; other volunteers are involved in community liaison, fund-raising and publicity.  Volunteers are always welcome, and should contact the above telephone number to request further information about recruitment and training.

Radio Liberte

Hello dear Listeners,

The Chaplaincy's broadcast on Radio Liberte will be off the air during july and August, but will start again in September with more interesting guests and topics.

However, you may well want to listen to the recorded interview with Bishop Geoffrey, Diocese in Europe, which took place in Cologne at Synod, regarding our goal - 'Preserving the Environment'.  The Archbishop of Canterbury lists our caring of the environment at the top of his priority list of five.

Perhaps we could also suggest that you look at the website www.europe.anglican.org/news/news_announcements.htm to find out what went on at the Diocesan Synod in Cologne.  You will find there a brief summary with pictures.

Till then,

Every blessing,

Madeleine

IMPORTANT HELP LINES:

Here are some help lines available to all English-speaking people who need a listening ear as mentioned in the past on the radio:

CSF Cancer Support France (Riberac)

We provide support for people with cancer and your carers by telephone, email, home and hospital visits; we also help you to ask the questions to which you need answers and point you in the direction of sound advice. Email: csfriberac@gmail.com www.cancersupportfrance.info

Pastoral Care Group

We can provide company, hospital visits, a phone call, a shoulder to cry on and hopefully much more. We really would appreciate being informed of perceived needs so that where possible we can be of help. If you know of anyone who would welcome a visit or call, please ring me (Karla Flambert) on 05 53 90 99 52 so we can arrange for a member of the team to help out.
