Future Services

At Doudrac on Sunday 4th July there will be a service of Holy Communion as usual at 11.00 led by the Revd. Liz Morris assisted by Colin Pratt, and for the first time by Sue Blomley who is a Lay Assistant-in-Training. Bramwell will be rejoining us on Sunday 1st August for our monthly service of Holy Communion.

At Monteton, near Allemans du Dropt, on Sunday 11th July at 10h30, Morning Prayer will be followed by a service of Holy Communion.

Also at Monteton, on Sunday 18th July at 10h30, there will be a service of All Age Worship, with Holy Communion celebrated the next Sunday, July 25th.

Dates for your Diary

Our friends at Monteton will be holding a barbecue on Friday 16 July at midday, at the home of Helen and Jim Rice. They live in the commune of Cambes , just a few kilometres from Monteton. Please contact Jan Winser on 05 53 64 39 69 for more details.

The Ecumenical Service held on 8th June at Masquieres was a great success. There was a good turnout of Anglophones , many from across the border in Midi Pyrennees and others from a number of different churches; we might even have outnumbered our French friends! Pere Poujade, the man behind this delightful initiative, led our devotions, delivered the homily and afterwards tucked into the delicious dishes everyone had brought. Call it ‘auberge espagnole’ if you wish, but it is a wonderful French tradition! During the meal we agreed to rethink the timing and location of future gatherings. Initially we will focus on where to meet, in order to suit the largest number of people possible, and will also look at the time of day. More news when there is some!

The service of music and worship at Monpazier on 30th May given by the Choir of the University of Central Lancashire, raised 150 euros for Chaplaincy funds. This event was a most uplifting experience and our thanks go to the choir, the soloist Tracy Bearcroft, and indeed, to all the Bearcroft family for organising this event yet again.

Giving: the Taxman can help

The Chaplaincy, as you will probably know, is entirely self-financing. So our regular outgoings have to be met by regular giving. The collection bags are an important source of income. However, for French taxpayers, there is a way to increase your giving by 60%, thanks to our friendly local taxman!

Many have already made arrangements to ensure that their giving is bolstered by this generosity. It is really quite easy! If you set up a direct debit with your bank or pay by cheque, 60% of your giving can be deducted from your final tax bill. This is too good to miss!

There is a top limit on this, of course; the tax break applies only if your giving is less than 20% of your gross income. This though is no barrier.

How to proceed? If you were to talk to Elizabeth Vellacott or to Basil Tarr, both regular members of our congregation, they will be able to help you.

The UK tax authorities are much less generous but, as they say, every little bit counts. I am sure that Basil and Elizabeth will be happy to advise..

Our Thanks

Our special thanks are due to the parish of Sainte Therese de l’Enfant Jesu des Bastides and to the Commune of Doudrac for allowing us to share with them the Church of St John the Baptist and the Salle des Fetes.
