DATES
FOR YOUR DIARY
There's
something new in Soulac this summer! The
Revd Canon Professor Christopher Seitz, accompanied by his wife
Elizabeth,
will be coming to the Atlantic Coast in July to lead a Summer Church
from July 18th
to August 8th.
Our thanks to those who have offered their time and especially
housing to bring this endeavour to fruition! Please spread the word

Summer
services and All Age Worship on August 29th We give thanks to our
numerous clergy, worship leaders and lay
helpers in general for ensuring a steady worship pattern in Bordeaux
this summer. Families with children and our entire church family
should note the All Age Worship Service right before the new school
year begins. Start off on the right foot! The Revd Bramwell Bearcroft
will be travelling in from the Lot & Garonne to lead us in a
lively service on the 29th. Don’t miss the opportunity to
worship,
give thanks to our gracious Lord, and meet Bramwell and his wife,
Jennifer.
Please
note October 15th in your diary! A Ceilidh
(bal écossais) will be held on Friday, October 15th at 8 p.m. at
La
Chartreuse in Caudéran to raise money for the Chaplaincy and the
charities that we are supporting this year: Emmaüs and the Foyer
Fraternel Gouffrand. Entrance: 6€. Free for children under 12,
3€
for ages 12-19. Music and dancing with Scotch Mist and the Atelier
de Danses Ecossaises
+ tombola. "And, of course, Jack Harrison with his (I am told)
Northumbrian pipes". For more information and reservations,
contact: Pamela Prior. Tel. 05 56 59 67 34 or 06 75 80 03 86. E-mail: pamela.prior@orange.fr
July
& August Collection for the Foyer Fraternel Gouffrand.
The Bordeaux Church is currently sponsoring the Foyer Fraternel
Gouffrand as their local charity and part of our contribution is
practical items.
In
July and August we'll be collecting disposable razors and small cans
of shaving cream. A basket for these items will be available at all
church services. These donations will go to the Foyer to help the
homeless and those in need.
"If anyone
has
material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on
him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not
love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1 John
3:17-18
REPORTING
BACK
Fun
and fellowship at the Watts’ home.
On the 26th June great was our pleasure to be invited for a barbecue
at the home of Roger and Christine Watts, at Villefranche de Lonchat,
in a beautiful setting overlooking the unspoilt countryside. What a
treat and the photos speak for themselves!
The
weather was perfect, even if on the hot side, and quite a few of us
came to share a very pleasant moment around the pool and indulge in a
very appetizing meal. We were a happy crowd of 20 adults and 9
children. Altogether a very peaceful and happy occasion and our most
heartfelt thanks go to Roger and Christine for organising such a
splendid day!
Baptism.
On Sunday, June 20th, the Bordeaux church welcomed Olivier
Michel Charles Rullier
into the fold. A moving Holy Communion & Baptism Service led by
the Chaplain included a talk on "Growing in Christ" and
drawing closer to God, the Father. Lots of food for thought and very
appropriate on Father's Day in France. The children made beautiful
lapel flowers in Sunday School for their dads.
10
km à pied
… the Sponsored Walk.
On Sunday, May 30th, an enthusiastic group of people ranging in age
from 8 years to 8 decades (!) completed a lovely, although somewhat
wet, sponsored walk through the green Côte de Bourg vineyards.
The
rain didn't dampen any spirits, as we were walking in aid of
Emmaüs
and the Foyer Fraternel Gouffrand.
Our
local organizer, Kit Seguin, welcomed us to her warm and dry house
for a splendid bring-and-share lunch which was followed by an All-Age
Worship service on "Creation" led by Chaplaincy warden,
David Tervet (and beautiful music by Janie!) in Comps village church.
Our
grateful THANKS to our generous sponsors – the funds will be sent
in June to the two charities to help the homeless and the poor over
the summer months. Special thanks to co-organizers, Christine
Rychlewski & Kit Seguin.
Bordeaux
Sunday School
The
Bordeaux congregation is lucky in that it has a thriving Sunday
School. With two Sunday school teachers that have seven children
between them, not to mention the Chaplain's extra three, we have a
splendid base of at least ten children. Therefore up to fifteen
children or so on a Sunday morning is quite a regular event. Children
range from very small to teenagers.
It
can be difficult to coordinate activities suitable for all of them,
but the good side is that, just like in a big family, a sense of
responsibility comes to the older ones
and the younger ones just love being with their elders.
English
is our basic language;
French is sometimes necessary; at least four different countries are
represented – we're quite a melting pot. We have a relatively
American bible-song repertoire.
Sunday
School is held during the church service. However we return to the
chapel before the Eucharist so that we can join the other church
members. The children receive unblessed bread but can in this way
still participate in the family meal. Extra-curriculum activities
involve collecting up the books and notices after the services and
taking the collection during the services. We are hoping to involve
them even more in certain services in the near future. As our musical
items seemed to be appreciated at the last Carol Service, we intend
capitalizing more on the talents of our budding musicians and taking
advantage of a captive congregation.
Our projects involve
making candle-holders to celebrate Candlemas, (Jesus
is the Light of the World), an Easter Garden (Jesus is risen), a
Harvest Offering, where we consider sharing and a Nativity item (God
so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son ....) Arts and
craft is a major part of our work in the Sunday School.
